I would recommend this fantastic fractured fairy tale picture book to anyone looking for a good book to read  to their child ages5-8.

Activities
For Kindergarten through First Grade I would first read the story to the class. Afterwards, we would make our own fiddles using cereal boxes and rubber bands. For a Second Grade classroom I would use this book as stepping stone for a discussion about maps. The book features a prominent map drawn by the Fork. I would discuss important features such as a map key and a compass rose. Then the students will create a map of their own neighborhood or house making sure to include a map key and a compass rose.
